Equation for LTB of Unsymmetrical shapes in RAM Elements
In case anyone else has run unsymmetrical shapes in RAM Elements and seen the reference to "Galambos (1968) Eq. 3.53 as the governing limit on a member and wondered what that was specifically, here is equation 3.53 from Ted's 1968 Structural Members and Frames book. Not very legible, but that's the best I can get from an Amazon preview of the book...
Strap Foundation Footing Size Error

Hello, I'm trying to design a strap footing and I modeled a very simple metal frame with only dead load and wind load. However, I keep getting the error saying my footing depth size exceeds the maximum embedment length. No matter how much I increase my embedment length, as well as increasing the soil allowable pressure just to see if it will work, I keep getting another error that the program is unable to size my footing/grade beam. I've attached the files for the model I created. Please help.

Sudden change in beam utilization ration due to member release command
Hello community,
I am designing steel structure as per Eurocode EN 1993-1-1 (without any National Annex) with custom response spectra (elastic) for seismic loading. Now due to erection reasons, I have to make/assign pinned connection to beam 1320 & 442.
Before assigning the pinned end connection to beams 1320 & 442, beams 89 (column) had utilization ratio 0.6 for load combn 111.
After assigning the pinned end connections to beams 1320 & 442, the ratio has changed to 1.012 for load combn 111. This has changed drastically.
It can be observed that the mass participation factor as well as the the mode frequency is changed very slightly.
So what could be the reason behind the sudden change in utilization ration for beam 89? Is this the issue with my STAAD version?

In RAM Frame Analysis Mode - Load Combinations & Steel Mode, two separate sets of load combinations can be generated. Since I majorly used Steel mode and didn't pay attention to Analysis - Load Combinations mode. Please advise why it's good to have two sets of combinations and what is Analysis - Load Combinations mode used for? Thanks!

I am working on a clod formed structure and using IS801 in Staad Version 22010039.
As in older version it is very easy to create any section by modification of section data base to perform analysis through IS801.
But it take lot of time to modify the section database in latest version STAAD, because it need more information in database related to section properties. so i need to know can there is any way to analysis built up section using IS801.
or if there is any specific calculator is available for calculating the all property as required in STAAD 22010039.

Eccentric footings along Property Lines

My firm does a lot of lot-line buildings and modeling the foundations in RAM have been causing us some grief, especially when trying to optimize the footings to retain the lot line conditions. For example we might have a column that is one(1) foot from the centerline of column to property line. In this case RAM designs a concentric spread footing initially, but upon trying to optimize the footing to meet actual field dimensions, I run into errors about bars and sizes (This is understandable), but what are some of the solutions that You have been able to come up with?

In attached stad file .I am applying the dead load 2kn/m2 as floor load.
1.somewhere i am attaching two secondary beams with primary beams with the same node.is this load distributed all over the area same as 2kn/m2 or where i am having two members there it is double?is my way is correct?
2. beam no 41 connection with column the value of moment z is coming 1204kn.m. is this value i should consider while designing the connection of this beam with column or only i should consider shear force which will compress the the column ?as beam is sitting on the column with bottom flange.Kindly give me your opinion.

Springs at beam to beam joints in Elements
I was modeling a monumental stair and was playing with different support assumptions for some of the landing framing, which leads me to ask a clarifying question. I started out with pinned ends as I normally would and got a typical simple span moment diagram for the supported member. I changed it to fixed ends and still had an essentially simple span moment diagram with negligible end moments. But it uses plate stringers which would be very flexible, so that's not so surprising. Then I tried applying a spring to model a semi-rigid connection since I have some other software that can generate M-theta curves and rotational stiffness constants. I had expected the spring to result in an end-moment somewhere between zero for the pinned condition and the small moment for the "rigid" connection to a flexible support. Instead, I got a moment diagram with end moments that were 52% of the theoretical fixed end moment with infinitely rigid supports. Am I correct in thinking this is because the spring is tied to the node and not the member? I was thinking it would be like RSS Frame where you assign the spring to the beam end, but I'm guessing since it's a nodal property in Elements, the spring stiffness overrides the support rigidity. Is that correct? What would be the recommended way to model semi-rigid framing connections in Elements? The manual only talks about springs at footings.
