RAM ELements Concrete beam module - Asreq

When I design RC beam using the Beams →Concrete module, the Asreq at the critical section changes drastically between 2.83 and 6.29 sq. in. depending on the number of bars I provided. As can be seen in the attached screenshot, the moment capacity is larger than the ultimate moment but the concrete module is reporting this as failing the code check.

I have spent several hours going through ACI 318-14 but could not identify which part of the code the design is failing on. Ram Element does not provide detailed design calculation or code references so that makes it even harder to crosscheck.

What I'm I missing here? I'm using Ram Element v16 Update 3 (16.03.01.8)

RAM connection forces

Is there a way to input all load forces on a connection (ie axial, shear x, shear y, torsion, moment x, moment y)? Is there a connection that can do this?  The tubular truss connection pictured below is what we need but are unable to input all the loads being applied to the connection (hint we aren't using it for a truss)

STAAD RCDC - Beam BM-Detailing Failure

STAAD RCDC keeps giving me BM - Detailing Failure no matter what parameter I adjust (beam dimension, material strengths, preferred bar spacing, etc.), I tried everything including checking Beam and Axial Force Design. Code used is ACI 318-14M. Just wondering how the software arrives at this conclusion so I can better understand it. RCDC gives little to no insight on why it gives failure reports.

Hope you can help. Thank you.

Consideration of old age of a building

Is there a command or any icon in GUI that can be used to consider the old age of the building?

Example situation: You are tasked to check the building because there will be a equipment/water tank to be installed on top of it. Say 17 years is the age of the building.

I already consider MEMBER CRACKED in staad, The main purpose of the design is to check if the elements of the building still can resist the equipment to be installed on top of it.

Thank you!

How to apply loads if my load for empty wt of tank is 65 KN and operating wt is 443 KN at 4 m ht and test wt is 499 KN at 4.99 m

As you model parametric wall and slab, once they are connected to beam when creating mesh on slab or wall the beam above wall or below the slab will also be broken into segments which gives different analysis result if the beam was not broken into segments

Hi Bentley Team,

I am looking for ISM plugin download for my newly installed Revit 2022. I used 11.02.01.007 version of ISM, but it does not support Revit 2022.

Thanks.

RAM Structural - Mezzanine Lateral

We have a project with two internal mezzanines (therefore no wind load), and we are in SDC A, so we would like to handle their seismic lateral through full-height column bending of the columns that run through the mezzanine. We tried turning all of the columns that go through the mezzanine to lateral columns, but got P-Delta errors even using the maximum size W14 column. This was with a rigid diaphragm.

We tried changing the diaphragm to semi-rigid, but when we looked at the deflected shape it showed the diaphragm bending as if it were a moment frame with the lateral columns.

Is there a correct way to model this situation in RAM? I saw a response from Seth Guthrie on eng-tips from several years ago (https://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=306557) where he addresses this and says "Note, these types of structures tend to be very sensitive to P-Delta amplification and I usually recommend no P-Delta analysis, at least in the preliminary design."

Can we be confident that everything is being designed correctly if we turn P-Delta off? And this is not for a preliminary design, this is for Construction Documents, so any advice you can give would be very helpful.

Thank you.

Wind Projected Area on Angular Members

Hi,

I am modelling an open structure with angular sections as the vertical members (Telco tower). However I found that the wind forces on the angles are a bit large. So I did a test model to compare a tube 100x100mm and an equal angle 100x100mm, applied 10kpa wind pressure.
This is the result:

Am I missing something? thanks.
