In my RAM SS model, the columns are shown extending to the top of my cantilever beams, rather than stopping at the bottom of the beam. I thought this may just be a visual issue but when I bring the model into RAM connection, the column still extends through the beam. I have another beam framing into the cantilever beam at this point but I am only able to create a connection to the extended column. Any suggestions how to solve this? Thanks

RAM Connection CONNECT Edition Update 2 (v13.2.0)
Hello,
I created a RAM Connection file designing Transfer Force Axial connections for BG, BCW, and BCF conditions. My original file was created using RAM Connection v13.1. After updating RAM Connection to v13.2, I am receiving the following error for all of my BCW connections, and none of my BCF and BG connections:
"Web plate strength due to out-of-plane transverse load"
I believe this failure is referring to the column web. I also believe this axial load is transferring from the beam, through the column flange, to the opposite beam. However, when I input an opposite beam for this connection, there is no change in the connection's capacity.
I am getting very large overstresses (400%+) due to large axial forces on my connections.
Is this failure accurate? Also, shouldn't the BG connections also have this check?
Thank you.
FTY ,FTZ all understood but what is 'FT' design stress in STAAD steel member design ?
What is ' FT' stress in STAAD steel member design ? albeit FTY ,FTZ already mentioned
two-way vs one-way slab in Ram Concept
My slab panel aspect ratio is greater than 2 but supported on all four sides.
1. Is it a safe design to have my span segment parallel to the short edges and set the CS design strips as one-way and ignore the other direction? Or unless there are totally no supports along the short edges, CS two-way slab in both direction is a safer design regardless of the aspect ratio?
2. Is there a difference between the resulting demand forces integrated across the width of a strip set as two-way and one-way?
Custom Base Plate Designs
Hello. I am using Ram Connection 13.01 and wanted to inquire on how to or even if we can create and analyze custom base plate geometries. My typical square base plate had to be notched (rectangular sections cut off) and now it is a multi-sided shape. I wanted to see if there was an option to add or manipulate the edges on the typical base plate and how to achieve this. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
RAM 17.00 Release Notes
I saw this note below in the RAM 17.00 Release Notes, could you please let me know what is this about? Is this feature in RAM SS?
Defaults Utility
STEEL COLUMN SCHEDULE LAYER: The values specified for Misc Symbols Color No and for Layer Name were shifted into the Hanging Column row.
Effect: DXF file was created using the incorrect color number and layer name
FOOUNDATION MAT FOOTING DEPTH
Hey, I just want to know where and how to edit the depth of a mat foundation job.
Thanks!
RAM Connection - An error occurred when rendering the report
When opening individual connections and viewing results/reports, RAM Connection throws "An error occurred when rendering the report. Please review the connection data and try again". Is there a fix for this? I've searched the forum and saw updating to latest ram connection would help, but the issue still persists. Error occurs in the model I updated as well as new connections I create from scratch.
Staad analysis stopped - Error 83
Hello,
communities.bentley.com/.../4478.Test.std
In STAAD.Pro CONNECT Edition Update 3, after performing portion of the analysis the solver stops and the below message appears. How can you overcome this? I believe I need to incresase the memory of the OOC file but how is this done?
*** Error Code = -83
*** Solver Type = Out-Of-Core
*** Memory assigned to OOC file = 2000 MB

Perpendicular Trusses
I have a problem where my design consist of 2 trusses perpendicular to each other. but this kind of design creates error in my staad. these errors and warnings are : "instability at joint", "zero stiffness at beam" and "members has the same joint" . attached is my staad design.communities.bentley.com/.../Research-2-Truss-only-L30306-Part-2.std
OpenSTAAD Version Command
Is there an OpenSTAAD command that will give the version of STAAD being used. I have noticed that the OpenSTAAD API changes with versions, so it is important to know what version is being used. One example would be the RetVal = GetInputUnitForForce(strUnit) command. In V22.00.00, the command writes the unit name as a string to the output variable, strUnit. In V22.00.02, the command writes an integer equivalent to the RetVal variable.
Anybody knows why the Importance factor is grayed out.?
Lateral load transfer outside diaphragm area - RAM Frame
Is there a way to transfer lateral loads to a braced frame that is outside of the diaphragm boundary?
Would lateral beam members acting as drag struts transfer these loads? (we are modeling a semirigid diaphragm)
CALT functionality
Hi,
How do you add the CALT function into MSTower?
Based in Britain and am looking for this option to upgrade the wind speeds from BS8100 to Eurocodes.
Composite beam - Ram Frame
Why if a beam was defined as a Composite beam for my gravity system once I change the Beam to be part of my frame system Ram Model define as a Non-composite beam? Why if I am defining a composite beam in RAM model for a frame member, Ram Frame is taking it as No braced at the top of the flange? How can I defined the beam to be braced at the top Flange for Ram Frame?
Top Program Designed Reinforcement at Slab Mid-Span
Hello,
I have middle strip adjacent to a beam column strip. Near the mid-span of this middle strip, RAM Concept is program designing a single #5 top bar to satisfy some detailing rule, yet the top bar detailing rules defined in the model are only applicable at or near the ends of the strip span, and shouldn't be forcing bars into the mid-span of this strip. Just considering this bay, I would never expect that a top bar would be needed here so I am trying to figure out exactly what is causing it in hopes of eliminating this bar. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
How to model anchor to wall I-beams
Good day,
How do I model a building with I-beams anchored to the wall?
The building structure looks like this:
I assumed that the i beam ends connecting to the wall (cyan beams to yellow shear wall) are just pinned supports. But when I try to load it with the wind load, it can't identify the wall on every side of the building. It looks something like this:
So how should I make the anchor connection at the ends of the I beam to the wall and at the same time making the wall of the building identified by the wind load?
Thank you so much.
RAM Concept - Prestress vs Normal Reinf option?
Hello
I am trying to model a mat foundation at the base of an elevator shaft. It is 12" thick with #5@12" each way, top and bottom. When I run the program and check the Design Status everything is showing as "Failed" but all of the errors I receive relate to a prestressed mat (i.e. 8.6.2.3 from ACI 318-14). How do I tell the program to only check normal reinforcing and to not look at prestressed or post tensioned design?
Thanks,
MIke
Load Combination -Graphical Display of Load Values
Sye,
I am running a model with repeat loads for combinations. I noticed this issue where the displayed load values when looking at the combinations are not adjusted by the load factors in the load combination.
two load cases one with FX loads and another with FZ loads. When combining the loads with 0.707 factor for each load the graphical display shows full load magnitude in the two directions.
