It seems that RAM Concrete is being overly conservative when assigning ties to lateral concrete beams in an intermediate moment frame. According to ACI318-08 section 21.3.4.2, hoops shall be provided over a length not less than 2h at a spacing of d/4. In my case that would be a space of 50" at 5" oc (10 spaces). However, when RAM optimizes these ties, it comes up with a much larger length (15 spaces). Is there a way to force RAM to optimize this correctly without me needing to go in and manually change the "start" and "end" locations at each span?
Secondly, I'm not sure what is happening at my girders. It does the same thing with spacing as above but it sets the middle portion of the ties at 5" oc as well.
When I change it to 10" oc it comes up with a warning.
However, this warning tells me that my ties need to be d/2 and in the results my d is 22". A spacing of 10" should therefore be sufficient.
Any thoughts on what the problem is here? Ideally, I could get RAM to have the correct number of ties at the correct spacing just by optimizing my reinforcing but at the very least I would like to be able to enter it by hand and not have all of my beams show warnings.
